Some say, "I know I'm going to hell!" They are probably right, because Jesus said most will go to hell (Matthew 7:13–14). I wish every person reading this could go to heaven, but that will not be happening because of the refusal to obey God. (Matt. 7:21, Acts 10:34–35). For those who know they are going to hell, I suggest they start getting in some practice. Hell is forever and involves pain, so rather than wishing the pain of a smashed finger to go away, one should make that pain last as long as possible. Next time you get burnt, don't jerk your body away from the flame, hold your body to the fire as long as possible (Mark 9:42–48). Don't avoid the scum of the earth. I'm talking about rapists, robbers, child molesters, wife beaters, liars, Hitler types, etc. Make friends with such and hang out with them, because they will be your neighbors in hell. (1 Corinthians 6:9–10, Galatians 5:19–21, Revelation 21:7–8). Start getting used to darkness and weeping, try to cry as much as possible. Start walking down dark deserted streets at night, so you will have some experience for your entrance into hell (Matt. 13:41–42. Matt. 25:30). Don't be afraid of the Devil, he will be in hell and he won't be in charge. Satan will be burning like everyone else (Rev. 20:10). So, if one knows he is going to hell, I suggest he go into training for it, because eternity has no end. Are you sure that you know what you are saying? The underlying premise of what is called "contemporary worship" is that the added sparkle, lighting, theatrics, and jazzed up singing, clapping, and hand raising will give the worshiper a greater buzz, and he will go away all excited about what he got out of it. A secondary premise is that such worship will draw more people. But this misses a fundamental principle of true worship. It is not about us! It is about Him! It is not directed to us but to the God of all the universe. It must meet His approval, not that of an audience. God "seeks men to worship him in spirit and truth" (John 4:23–24). "In the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee" (Heb. 2:12). "Singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord" (Col. 3:16). So the question is not, "What did I get out of worship?" But, "What did He get out of it? Was it done according to His will? Or did we add something He did not authorize? (By Connie Adams.) Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. A few years ago, John Travolta played an angel in the movie, "Michael." Remember that movies are just acting, and angels don't commit gluttony, drinking, smoking, fornicating, or even falling in love with women (Matthew 22:30; Mark 12:25; Revelation 21:27; Rev. 22:14–15;1 Corinthians 6:9–10; Galatians 5:19–21; 1 Peter 3:1–2). Angels are spirits—they are the messengers who stand in the presence of God because they are holy (Matt. 4:6–11; Hebrews 1:7; Luke 9:26; Psalm 104:4; Luke 24:39; Matt. 18:10; Matt. 25:31; Mark 8:38; 2 Thessalonians 1:7). Angels are active daily, carrying the dead into hades and protecting the righteous and the wicked (Luke 16:22; Psalm 34:7; Acts 12:15; Job 20:29; Matt. 5:45). Angels cannot be seen by humans unless God allows it because spirits have no flesh and blood (Numbers 22:31; 2 Kings 6:17; 1 Chronicles 21:16). No one knows what angels look like in their glory because when they appeared to people in the Bible they took the form of men. So the wings and the halo are all inventions of men, just like the devil with horns, cloven hoofs, a pointed tail, and pitch fork. Hope to hear from you or see you at the services. |
